This page explains how you can opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information and out of targeted advertising, as defined by U.S. state privacy laws like the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). It applies to activity on BestLawyersInUnitedStates.com.
1) Your rights
Residents of certain states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and Utah, may have the right to:
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information
- Opt out of targeted advertising and certain profiling
- Request access, correction, or deletion of personal information
For all other privacy rights, see our Privacy Policy.
2) What “sell,” “share,” and “targeted advertising” mean
- Sell: exchanging personal information for money or other valuable consideration
- Share: disclosing personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising
- Targeted advertising: showing ads based on your activity across different sites or apps
Our use of analytics and advertising tools may be considered “sharing” or “targeted advertising” under some state laws. Learn how we use cookies in the Cookie Policy.
3) How to opt out
Choose any of the options below. We recommend using more than one, since some apply per browser or device.
A. One-click site opt out
Use the control on this page to set your preference:
Opt Out of Sale/Sharing
This sets an opt-out cookie in your current browser. If you clear cookies, use another browser, or use a different device, you will need to opt out again.
B. Global Privacy Control (GPC)
If your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of sale/sharing and targeted advertising for that browser. You can learn more about GPC in your browser settings. Details about how we honor GPC are in the Cookie Policy and Privacy Policy.
C. Email request
Send a request to admin@bestlawyersinunitedstates.com with the subject line “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.” Include your state of residence and the email address you use on our site. We will verify your request and respond within the timelines required by law.
D. Authorized agent
You may use an authorized agent to submit an opt-out. We will require proof of the agent’s authority and verification of your identity.
4) Verification process
To protect your privacy, we may need to verify your identity before processing access, deletion, or correction requests. For opt-out requests made through the site control or GPC, verification is usually not required beyond setting the opt-out signal in your browser.
5) Categories of data involved
Depending on your interactions with our site, the following categories may be used for advertising or analytics:
- Identifiers such as IP address, cookie identifiers, and device data
- Internet or network activity like pages viewed and referring URLs
- Approximate geolocation
- Inferences used for personalization where permitted
We do not sell attorney-client communications. For full details, see the Privacy Policy.
6) Appeals (where required by law)
If we deny a rights request in a state that provides an appeal process, you may appeal by replying to our decision email with “Appeal” in the subject line and explaining why you believe the decision was incorrect. We will review and respond within the legally required timeframe.
7) Children’s data
Our site is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of users under 16.
8) Changes to this page
We may update this page to reflect changes in laws, our practices, or technologies. The “Last Updated” date will change when updates are made.
