BestLawyersInUnitedStates.com is committed to accuracy in our attorney directory and legal blog. This Corrections Policy explains how to request a correction, how we verify requests, and how updates appear on the site.

1) What this policy covers

  • Attorney and law firm profile details
  • Directory search data such as practice areas, jurisdictions, and contact links
  • Editorial articles and resource pages
  • Review metadata that we control, such as dates or category tags

For ranking logic, see our Editorial and Ranking Methodology. For copyright matters, use the DMCA Notice and Takedown Policy. For user reviews, see Reviews and Community Guidelines.

2) Who can request a correction

  • The attorney or authorized firm representative
  • A verified user who identifies a factual error with reliable evidence
  • A regulator or bar association representative with appropriate authority

3) How to request a correction

Send a detailed request to admin@bestlawyersinunitedstates.com or use our Contact Page. Include:

  • Profile or page URL
  • The exact text that needs correction
  • The proposed correction
  • Supporting documentation or links to authoritative sources, such as state bar records or firm pages

4) Verification steps

We verify the identity of requesters and the accuracy of claims. Typical checks include:

  • Matching request email to a firm domain or bar record
  • Reviewing public bar databases and archived firm pages
  • Contacting the firm or attorney for confirmation when needed

5) Types of corrections we make

  • Spelling, name formatting, and title corrections
  • Updated practice areas, jurisdictions, languages, or admissions
  • Replacing outdated contact information and website URLs
  • Updating education, awards, and professional memberships with sources
  • Fixing broken links or misattributed images

6) What we will not change

  • Honest user reviews that comply with our rules
  • Editorial viewpoints or ratings that do not contain factual errors
  • Content that would remove material information or mislead users
  • Court sealed or privileged information requests that lack authority

If the issue is a dispute about a review, follow the Reviews and Community Guidelines. If the issue is copyright, see the DMCA Notice and Takedown Policy.

7) Timeframes

We aim to review straightforward corrections within 5 to 10 business days. Complex requests that require multiple sources or identity checks may take longer. You will receive a confirmation when your request is resolved or if we need more information.

8) How updates appear on the site

  • Profiles are updated in place, and key fields show the latest data
  • Significant editorial updates may include an editor’s note with the date of change
  • The page header shows the “Last Updated” date after revisions

9) Appeals

If a correction request is denied, reply to our decision email with “Appeal” in the subject line. Provide additional context or documentation. A separate reviewer will reassess the request.

10) Preventing future errors

Attorneys and firms can reduce errors by claiming their profile, keeping details current, and promptly emailing changes. See improvement tips in the Editorial and Ranking Methodology.
